I few things stand out to me here...
1.) Obviously (and amazingly!), this woman thought that public sentiment would favor HER side of the story - people tend to keep these types of things to themselves when they know that others are not going to be sympathetic to THEIR side of the story. She was probably counting on an assist from other mothers who've delt with a public tantrum.
2.) This woman seems to be only concerned with the trouble this caused HER and HER family - at no point, in the provided clip, does this woman mention the other passangers on the flight... there is no acknowledgement that a disturbance, such as her child was making, can be a real headache for other travelers... no statement that she is sorry that her family caused that level of disruption.
3.) The spot introduces her as a Doctor - I would have thought that her profession would give her a greater understanding about instances of heightened stress and personal trauma/crisis, as well as greater knowledge about how best to deal with these situations in an appropriate manner.
It seems the pilot did the right thing by the other passengers and his or her crew, as well as for the child who obviously needed to calm down before being allowed to fly anywhere.
That said, I do think the airlines should waive all of their fees and fines when someone is removed from a flight and needs to reschedule - nobody need a situation where it's profitable for the airlines to remove people from flights!
Come to think of it, I would love it if airlines would waive some of these fees for those who ELECT to remove themselves from flights in these situations - perhaps, then, more parents would be far more willing to do so for the benefit of other passengers and to allow their child time to calm down before trying again.
